Introduction to the Cell:
1. What is a Cell?
A cell is the basic structural and functional unit of life.
In simple words, a cell is the smallest part of a living organism that can carry out all the basic activities of life.
Just as a building is made up of many bricks, a living organism is made up of cells.
Example:
- Human body → made up of millions of cells
- Plants → made up of cells
- Animals → made up of cells
2. Why is the Cell Important?
Every living organism needs to perform activities such as:
- Taking in nutrients
- Producing energy
- Growing
- Removing waste
- Reproducing
- Responding to changes around it
Cells perform these activities. Therefore, cells are essential for life.
