Microorganisms: Friends and Foes

Introduction:

Microorganisms are tiny living organisms that are so small they cannot be seen with the naked eye. They include bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, and some algae. Even though they are very small, microorganisms play a big role in our daily lives and the environment.

Some microorganisms are friends to humans. They help in making foods like curd, cheese, and bread, help plants grow by improving soil fertility, and even help our bodies digest food and fight harmful germs. Without these helpful microorganisms, life on Earth would be very difficult.

However, some microorganisms are foes. These harmful microorganisms can cause diseases in humans, animals, and plants, such as malaria, tuberculosis, and food poisoning. They can also spoil food and damage crops.

Thus, microorganisms can be both helpful and harmful, and understanding them helps us use their benefits while protecting ourselves from their harmful effects.
