Biology Made Easy

Biosphere Reserve

When the children entered the biosphere reserve, they explained that these areas are created to protect biodiversity.

What is a Biosphere Reserve?

A biosphere reserve is a large protected area meant for:

  • Conserving plants, animals, and microorganisms
  • Protecting biodiversity
  • Preserving the culture and lifestyle of local tribal people

Simple meaning: A big protected area to save nature and people together

What is Biodiversity?

Biodiversity means:

  • Variety of plants
  • Variety of animals
  • Variety of microorganisms
  • Their relationships with each other and environment

 More biodiversity = healthier ecosystem

 Important Feature

A biosphere reserve may contain:

Biosphere Reserve
        ↓
   National Park
        ↓
Wildlife Sanctuaries

 Example: Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve

The Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve includes:

  • Satpura National Park (one national park)
  • Bori Wildlife Sanctuary
  • Pachmarhi Wildlife Sanctuary

This shows biosphere reserves are very large protected regions.

 Factors Disturbing Biodiversity (Your Area)

Many things reduce biodiversity.

 Major Factors

  •  Deforestation
  •  Industrial pollution
  •  Expansion of agriculture
  •  Urbanisation (building houses and roads)
  •  Forest fires
  •  Overgrazing
  •  Mining
  •  Dumping of plastic waste
  •  Climate change

Human Activities That Disturb Biodiversity (Often Unknowingly)

Sometimes people harm nature without realising.

Examples:

  • Cutting trees for fuel
  • Throwing plastic in open areas
  • Excess use of pesticides and fertilizers
  • Burning crop residue
  • Wasting water
  • Loud noise near forest areas
  • Encroaching forest land
  • Overuse of groundwater

Imbalance in nature

 How Can These Be Checked?

 Solutions

  •  Plant more trees (afforestation)
  •  Stop unnecessary cutting of trees
  •  Reduce plastic use
  •  Use fewer chemical pesticides
  • Save water
  •  Prevent forest fires
  •  Protect wildlife habitats
  •  Spread awareness
  •  Follow government conservation laws

 Brief Report

Title: Factors Disturbing Biodiversity in My Area

Biodiversity in my area is affected by several human activities. The main factors disturbing it are deforestation, pollution, urbanisation, overgrazing, and excessive use of chemicals in agriculture. People often cut trees for fuel and throw plastic waste in open places, which harms plants and animals. Burning crop residue and wasting water also disturb the natural balance.

These problems can be controlled by planting more trees, reducing plastic use, protecting forests, using eco-friendly farming methods, and spreading awareness among people. If we act responsibly, we can conserve biodiversity for the future.
