1. Mode of Reproduction in Humans
Humans reproduce by sexual reproduction.
Sexual Reproduction means:
- Two parents are involved (male + female)
- Special cells called germ cells (sperm & ovum/egg) unite
- This forms a zygote, which grows into a baby
2. Growth vs Puberty
Growth
- Increase in height and body size
- Change of milk teeth to permanent teeth
Puberty (Adolescence)
Puberty is the age when reproductive organs mature and the body becomes capable of reproduction.
Usually occurs between 10–14 years (girls) and 12–16 years (boys) (varies from person to person).
3. Changes During Puberty
Common Changes (Both Boys & Girls)
- Hair growth in armpits & pubic region
- Oily skin and pimples
- Awareness of body changes
- Rapid height increase
Changes in Girls
- Breasts develop
- Hips broaden
- Start of menstruation (monthly cycle)
- Ovary begins to release eggs
Changes in Boys
- Facial hair appears
- Voice deepens
- Penis enlarges and may become erect
- Testes start producing sperms
4. Why Does Puberty Occur?
During childhood, the body uses energy mainly for growth.
When growth slows: reproductive organs start maturing. Body becomes ready for reproduction
This stage is called PUBERTY.
5. What Are Germ Cells?
| Male | Female |
| Sperm | Ovum (Egg) |
These cells join during reproduction.
6. Basic Flow of Human Sexual Reproduction
Flow Chart
Puberty begins

7. Why Are Physical Changes Important?
- Hair growth, voice change, breast development act as signals of maturity
- Special organs (penis, vagina, uterus) allow transfer of germ cells
- Female body prepares to:
- Carry baby (uterus)
- Feed baby (breasts)
8. Simple Diagrams
Male Reproductive System (basic)
Testes → Sperms

Penis (transfers sperm)
Female Reproductive System (basic)
Ovary → Egg

9. Important Keywords
- Puberty – Age when body becomes capable of reproduction
- Sperm – Male germ cell
- Ovum/Egg – Female germ cell
- Fertilisation – Fusion of sperm and egg
- Zygote – First cell formed after fertilisation
- Uterus – Place where baby develops
In One Line:
Human reproduction is sexual, begins after puberty, involves fusion of sperm and egg, and the baby develops inside the mother’s uterus.
